FAQ go-eCharger HOME+ and HOMEfix
General product information
The go-eCharger can be used for all e-cars registered in Europe. Our chargers have the same output as public charging stations (type 2 socket).
Whether you have to register your charging station for electric cars at the electricity network operator and also have it approved by him depends on the individual specifications and laws of the different European countries.
In Austria, you do not currently need to inform the electricity network operator about the go-eCharger HOME+, neither do you need a licence, because it is considered an intelligent charging cable. In contrast, you need to register the go-eCharger HOMEfix by an electrician. However, in a few federal states there is an obligation to notify, for example due to building regulations. Therefore please inform yourself at the responsible authorities.
For Germany, most of the relevant regulations for the registration and approval of charging boxes are contained in the TAR Low Voltage (VDE-AR-N 4100:2019-04). According to this, every charging station from 3.6 kW in Germany has to be registered online or by filling in a standardised VDE form at the relevant power network operator before putting it into operation. This makes it easier for the network operator to estimate how much electricity he has to provide in a local distribution network and to take precautions against overloading. Up to 12 kW charging capacity (like the go-eCharger HOME+ 11 kW or the go-eCharger HOMEfix 11 kW), you only need to inform the network operator where you are using the charging box. You can then charge your vehicle immediately.
If the charging station has a capacity of more than 12 kW (like the go-eCharger HOME+ 22 kW or the go-eCharger HOMEfix 22 kW) you have to wait for the approval of the German electricity network operator after registration. The operator will check whether the power lines and fuses at the registered location are sufficiently dimensioned to operate the charging station. If you are not sure about this, ask a qualified electrician in advance. Note: Some network operators require an electrician to submit or at least sign the registration documents for the charging station.
A German network operator is allowed up to two months to approve the charger. Often, however, you will receive an answer within one to two weeks. As soon as you obtain the approval, you have four months to put the charging box into operation for the first time. If you do not receive approval, the network operator will inform you of the changes you need to make at your own expense to the house connection so that you can still use the charging station. We have checked with several major network operators: they will only refuse your permission to use a charging station in exceptional cases.
If you want to use the go-eCharger in other European countries, please contact your local electricity network operator in advance to find out whether the charger requires registration or approval.
Basically it makes no difference to almost all German network operators whether you want to register or get approval for a permanently installed charging station (like the go-eCharger HOMEfix) or a mobile wallbox (like the go-eCharger HOME+). (This is the result of our research with various network operators.) However, if you want to use a special “Autostromtarif” (with a separate meter for the wallbox), most electricity providers insist on using a permanently connected wallbox. A mobile charging station for electric cars is usually not permitted in this case. Some electricity providers do not allow the operation of a charging station for electric cars without a “Autostromtarif”. Therefore, please find out (especially in connection with a planned “Autostromtarif”) in advance of the purchase of a mobile go-eCharger HOME+ whether it is recognised by the electricity provider. If this is not the case, then the functionally identical go-eCharger HOMEfix would be the right choice.
The go-eCharger HOME+ and HOMEfix are charging stations which are unrivalled in terms of features in combination with the price-performance ratio. From the possible PV-connection (via API connection) to load balancing and timer as well as RFID and personalization, the device leaves hardly any wish unfulfilled. The advantage of the go-eCharger HOME+ is that the box can even be taken along. This allows you to charge quickly at other locations, e.g. on vacation or at relatives homes (socket and possibly suitable adapters needed), if no other charging station is available there.
Whether you should choose a go-eCharger in the 11 kW or 22 kW variant depends on your individual requirements. You could simply ask yourself the following questions before making your purchase decision:
- Is the planned EV capable of charging with up to 22 kW alternating current?
- If not: If more cars with 22 kW charging capacity come onto the market, will you possibly purchase a corresponding vehicle in the future? Or are you planning to purchase additional electric cars in your household, one of which could charge with more than 11 kW?
- Does the car have a high battery capacity or will you buy one with a higher capacity later?
- Do you drive your car many kilometres on some days of the week and are there situations when you do not have much time to charge?
- Do you want to use existing 22 kW sockets when travelling (applies to go-eCharger HOME+ only)?
- Is your house connection sufficiently dimensioned so that you can operate a 22 kW charging station?
Even if your vehicle can currently only charge with 11 kW, a 22 kW wallbox would be a future-proof solution. If you decide later on for a faster charging electric car with higher battery capacity, you will not need a new wallbox. As a 22 kW go-eCharger can also be operated permanently at 11 kW, you are not limited in your choice of future electric vehicles. If your house connection is not dimensioned for high charging currents and the expansion would involve high costs, the 11 kW version of the go-eCharger would be the right choice.
In Austria, individual consumers who purchase a charging station for their electric car receive a national subsidy of 200 euros. In addition to a permanently installed wallbox, mobile chargers are also financed. These must comply with the requirements for an intelligent charging cable. With its functions such as 3-phase charging and protection mechanism against residual current, the go-eCharger HOME+ is accepted as an intelligent charging cable. You will therefore receive 600 euros back from the purchase price of the go-eCharger. Important: The subsidy for the charger must be applied for at the same time as the subsidy for an eligible electric car. Of course the go-eCharger HOMEfix is also subsidized.
New nationwide subsidy in Germany from 24.11.2020: Subsidy for the purchase of charging stations, including the go-eCharger HOMEfix 11 kW, and additional services such as installation, grid connection, etc. per charging point at a flat rate of 900 euros. Below you will find a few key data:
- Applications for funding need to be submitted to KfW before the charging station is ordered/purchased. No offer from the seller or installer is required. This means that the charging station can be ordered on 24.11.2020 at the earliest to qualify for the subsidy.
- Only stationary charging stations are eligible for subsidies (i.e. no chargers for mobile use). The maximum charging capacity has to be 11 kW. Therefore only our go-eCharger HOMEfix 11 kW is eligible.
- The charging station is not allowed to be publicly accessible (if the charger is installed outdoors – it can be locked/unlocked by RFID) – and must be used exclusively for charging your own car. Tenants may also apply for a subsidy with the lessor’s consent.
- The installation has to be carried out by qualified personnel.
- The sum of the purchase price for the charging station, installation and other additional costs has to amount to at least 900 euros per charging point. For two charging stations this means 1,800 euros.
- The user has to be able to control the charging station intelligently (e.g. through timer, load balancing, etc. for the go-eCharger).
- The charging station has to be controllable by the network operator/power supplier (is possible with the go-eCharger via the network operator API or Modbus TCP).
- The electricity for the charging station has to come from 100 percent renewable energy sources.
- A combination with other subsidies is not possible.

Other European countries also support charging stations. The legal situation is very different. We recommend that you ask locally if you receive subsidies for a mobile charger or a fixed installation.
The version go-eCharger HOME+ with plug is plug-and-play capable and can be simply plugged into an existing socket. The variant go-eCharger HOMEfix for permanent installation must be connected by an electrician. In every case, we recommend to ask an electrician to control your already existing electric installation for sufficient dimensioning or to install your new go-eCharger.
No, only the wall bracket must be screwed on.
Basically, weather protection is always an advantage, it is not really necessary. The plastic is particularly UV-resistant and the device is sufficiently protected with IP54 for all weather conditions.
No, the charger already has a FI protection module with DC current detection (30 mA AC/6 mA DC) installed, so only one FI type A is required for the supply line.
For 32 A you need 4 mm² for surface-mounted cables (not laid in the wall), 6 mm² for cables in installation pipes and 10 mm² for cables in thermally insulated walls. Note the simultaneity factor! The simultaneity factor must be set to 1 when calculating the cable cross-section, which means that the electrician must assume that the cable is always fully charged.
32A three-phase = circuit breaker 4-pole for 32A (CEE32A red).
16A three-phase = circuit breaker 4-pole (16A CEE16 red).
32A single-phase = 2-pole circuit breaker (32A CEE32 blue).
16A single-phase = 2-pole circuit breaker (16A CEE16 blue).
The circuit breaker can be used with characteristic B or C.
The circuit breaker is a fuse that switches off in case of overload. It protects the line from damage caused by heating as a result of excessive current.

You can freely select the current at the go-eCharger HOME+/HOMEfix 22 kW from 6 A to 32 A (depending on the fuse of the household installation) and at the go-eCharger HOME+/HOMEfix 11 kW from 6 A to 16 A and also limit it to a low power. It is also possible to limit the current with the app so that it cannot be exceeded with the quick select button.
If you want to use the go-eCharger in the 22 kW version with full charging power, 32 amps must be secured. The more amps you set, the faster the car will charge.
A 2-phase connection of the charger is not possible. The go-eCharger can only be connected in single or three phases. It checks the phases at the entry and goes into fault mode (PHASE fault) if the connection is 2-phase.
The go-eCharger charges 1-, 2- or 3-phase via the three-phase socket, depending on the specifications of the electric car charger. The number of phases to be charged cannot be changed on the charger itself. However, with an appropriate adapter, single-phase charging can be forced.
Yes, if the three-phase socket is further away, the go-eCharger HOME+ can also be connected with an extension cable. For the go-eCharger HOME+ 22 kW, go-e also offers an extension cable that also serves as an adapter for 16 A CEE red sockets. Therefore it is limiting the charging current to max. 16 A. Please note that the 32 A extension cable may not be combined with go-eCharger adapters, otherwise they will not be recognized.
The go-eCharger is suitable for charging gassing vehicle drive batteries (e.g. lead acid batteries) only in well ventilated rooms. Please consult your vehicle manufacturer if you are unsure.
Using the charger
Immediately after plugging in, this is made possible by the Plug & Play system.
Starting the charging process is very simple: just plug the charger into a socket, and your type 2 cable in the car and the charger.
ATTENTION: Standard setting of the charger in the app : access control = open, cable lock = normal mode.
If you change this settings, the charging process might only start after you unlocked your charger.
Either via App (deactivate charge) or open the lock on the car.
Please do not disconnect the go-eCharger from the power supply during charging. Please also note that the type 2 cable can only be unlocked as long as the go-eCharger still has power.
No, the charging capacity can also be set directly on the device using the button (5 preset levels). When the charger is connected to a car via type 2 cable, the charging process starts automatically in the default setting. However, this can be changed via the app. The app also enables numerous additional functions, such as load balancing, timer function, personalization and much more.
Simply download the app on each smartphone used for this purpose and then add the token of the respective charger to the app.
No, because the app can also be operated via the hotspot integrated in the Charger. Only remote control and some functions such as electricity price exchange (aWATTar) or load balancing are not possible without WLAN.
The charging power can be set either by button (5 predefined values) or by app. The button values can be configured in the app as desired, between 6 and 16 or 32 amps (depending on the maximum charging power of the charger – 11 or 22 kW). The charging power can also be changed during the charging process using the app.
The brightness can be changed in the app. Additionally the LEDs can be switched off after 10 seconds in standby mode.
In the app you can see the amount of kWh charged during this charging process as well as the total amount of kWh charged. This information can be found in the first tab of the app. Please note that only whole kWh are counted.
Neither the go-eCharger HOME+ nor the go-eCharger HOMEfix has an MID-compliant meter (Measurements Instruments Directive). In certain countries a MID-certified meter is required to sell electricity.
The Charger is delivered with a U-piece, which can be attached to the wall. The supply line of the charger is laid through the U-piece and can be secured at the front with any lock.
From our experience, the charging capacity has a hardly noticeable effect on the ageing of the battery, especially when charging with alternating current. There are many other statements circulating in the internet, but they are mostly based on old battery technology and low battery capacities.
The so-called C-rate is a good reference point for a charging capacity that is gentle to the battery. This describes the relation between charging current and battery capacity. Let’s assume you charge your car with 22 kW and the battery has a capacity of 22 kWh. Then C = 1. If the battery capacity is halved and the charging current is the same, C = 2. The higher the C rate, the greater the effect of the charging process on the lifetime of the battery. However, this can only be determined at very high mileage. At a C rate of 1, a shortened battery life is hardly noticeable.
PV connection / electricity price exchange / load balancing
There is a REST API that can be used over the local WLAN connection or over the cloud.
An API is an open interface so that other smart devices can communicate with the charger.
With the go-eCharger you can use surplus electricity from a photovoltaic system to charge your electric car. The prerequisite for this is that the inverter of the PV system has an open API interface just like the go-eCharger. This allows communication between the two devices. If you are not able to program it yourself, you can hire a solar technician to do so. The actual charging of your car with surplus power can then be set up via the Charger’s app.
The API documentation which you can find here is helpful for quick programming.
If you want to use the double-eco function of the go-eCharger and thus benefit from the advantages of hourly electricity exchange prices, you need a smart meter. If this is not yet installed, please contact your network operator. You will also need to change from your current electricity provider to our partner aWATTar.
The actual charging process with aWATTar can be set via the go-eCharger app. You have three setting options:
a) Charging in Germany or Austria
b) Number of hours you want to charge
c) until which time must the car be charged?
The charging station then selects the most favourable consecutive hours for charging the electric car, during which it charges the vehicle with the preset charging power.
For static load balancing with multiple chargers you do not need additional hardware. The charging stations can be grouped into a load balancing group via the app, which allows the stations to communicate with each other via the cloud. As a result, the performance of the individual chargers is automatically regulated down or up depending on the number of vehicles being loaded. In the app, priorities can be set for the individual charging boxes.
We are currently developing the go-eController for dynamic load balancing. This will also allow other large-scale consumers in the building to be controlled automatically depending on the amount of electricity available.
Access control / RFID
The access control can be set via the app in such a way that an RFID identification is required before charging. If the identification is unknown, the charger is not released for charging.
The go-eCharger HOME+ and HOMEfix can register up to 10 cards/chips.
Usually any RFID card or RFID chip can be trained. So you can also use an EC/bankomat card, for example. Should it not be possible to train the RFID card, it doesn’t transmit at the required frequency of 13.56 MHz.
Maintenance and care
No, the chargers from go-e are maintenance-free.
Wipe the appliance with a cloth moistened with water. Please do not clean with a high pressure cleaner or generally under running water.

To perform updates, an active connection of the Charger to the Internet is required. Once connected to the internet, possible updates are visible in the “Cloud” tab of the app.
You need a 2 A ceramic fuse with a breaking capacity of at least 1500 A (important!).
